Kenneth Cooper has arranged and edited American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk's Berceuse Cradle Song for Clarinet in A and piano. Other options are for Violin, Flute, or Oboe and Piano. The Berceuse was originally published in 1861 and in 1862 Gottschalk arranged the work into a song, "Slumber on, Baby Dear, a Mother's Cradle Song." This piece holds a special place in the composer's heart. He wrote, "I was led to compose the "Berceuse" by memories of a younger sister of mine, dearly loved and brought up by me, whom I cradled in my arms during her infancy through a painful illness that threated to take her away from us."
