Award-winning composer, teacher and violinist Allan Blank was born in New York in 1925. His early musical training was on the violin. He attended the High School of Music and Art where an interest in conducting and composition was fostered. Further studies were at the Juilliard School of Music, Washington Square College, University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa. His works are performed worldwide.
Blank's Woodwind Quintet was composed in 1970. The work is in four movements, each requiring an advanced level of musicianship.
